A Church of Forgivers for Their Offenders

SCRIPTURES: “But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, but all of you to some extent—not to be too severe.” 2 Corinthians 2:5

“Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open.” 2 Corinthians 6:13

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4
We have given our offenders and wrongdoers too much credit,
Contention remains in multiple seasons with storms rarely weathered.

Although, they have wronged us, and may deserve the worse,
The church carries the burden and lives with the unworthy curse.

Upholding our pride while never removing the thorns from our sides,
Spending years around the church making sure our offenders can’t hide.

Certainly, bitterness has made a home, while our offenders freely roam,
Some acknowledge their offenses, some not aware, or some just leave it alone.

We fail to consider that the Lord uses these tests and matters for His measurement,
Paul encourages believers to count trials as joy because testing produces faithfulness.

Each trial reveals our character, strengthens our faith, and proves our  steadfastness,
However, the resolution is not exposing our offenders, but addressing our unrighteousness.

No surprises by fiery trials, but to endure them as they are for their spiritual refinement,
If these thorns and offenders didn’t exist, would we seek divine support and spiritual alignment?

Paul is asking the church to reciprocate the openness and affection that we have received,
A demonstration and fair exchange of love, forgiveness, vulnerability, and transparency.

The rejection and restriction of affection should not be an option for the church,
This will hinder our growth, grieve the spirit, and make our feelings first.

So, when we have the chance to resolve or restore relationship with an offender,
Don’t chase or slander the wrongdoer, but reconcile with a Christlike agenda.

If not, this can be a burden or thorn that can last and affect you for a lifetime,
Waiting for your offender to feel your pain, yet you’ve become bitter over time.

Therefore, we know that our offenders will have their day before the Lord,
Let’s pass the test knowing our wrongdoers will have their own tests they can’t avoid.

PRAYER: Lord! Your commitment to love is immeasurable. You are willing to love despite our choices, yet we refuse to do the same. You are the ultimate model. We are grateful for Your grace and mercy.
