Life Lessons

SCRIPTURE: “Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” Genesis 2: 1-3
There are twenty-four hours in a day. During those twenty-four hours a person is to work, eat, sleep, and do other activities. Studies suggest that an adult should get 7-9 hours of sleep for optimal health. Sleeping less than 7 hours a night may cause health issues. Conversely, some of the most successful people in the world boast of a day that consists of very little sleep or rest. Sadly, many of those people don’t live past age 70. When we sleep our body heals, physically and mentally. The Lord, our creator, thought of everything. He is indeed Jehovah Rapha, the God that heals. The Lord is also our example, on the 7th day, He rested. Elohim, God the creator, made the world and man in 6 days and after He saw that it was very good (Genesis 1:31) He rested. From Genesis to Revelation Yahweh, our Lord, has given us life lessons. He has given us everything we need including our ticket to eternal life. He has also given us free-will so we decide if we heed His warnings, if we follow His examples, and if we accept His Son.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, our provider, protector, healer, and peace. Thank You for Your example of rest. You showed us the importance of rest and gave us a day on which we could rest. Forgive us when we choose not to follow Your example and do not rest. Forgive us when we don’t remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Forgive us when we burn the midnight oil consistently and then ask You to repair our broken bodies. Thank You for grace and mercy and for creating such intricacies in us that promote self-healing if we would just rest, eat right, and exercise. You tell us in 1 Corinthians 10:23 that all things are good, but all things aren’t necessarily good for us. They aren’t profitable. They don’t add to us. Thank You for Your Word that provides examples of how we should live, and eat, and speak. And thank You for Your Son, Jesus the Christ, our greatest example. In Jesus name, Amen.
