Where do You Stand?

SCRIPTURE: "Daniel answered and said: 'Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
For wisdom and might are His. 21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.'" Daniel 2:20-21

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.” Proverbs 14:34
I have been questioned about where I stand about subjects in this current culture. And truthfully if I had been asked the same questions ten years ago, I may not have had the same answers. I am grateful for God’s Word, spiritual maturity, and strong Christian leadership -the kind that do not run from hard truths no matter the popularity.

I work in an environment where there are persons who seemingly have life figured all out, but without mentioning their personal relationship with Jesus, the Savior of the world. Every once in a while, I am able to state a truth from God’s Word or share a thought that may have certain co-workers to take a step back and at least listen. Some will say they are “Christians”, and some want to be known as “hoodlums”. It’s true! Oh, and unfortunately, I work along side some who are older in years, but speak as unwise as some in the younger generations.

Popular subjects in our culture include, but are not limited to, abortion, same sex marriage, gay and lesbian lifestyles. These subjects can cause a ruckus in our break room. Many who profess Christ do not want to stick their neck out so far as to offend. They make subtle statements like, ‘Live and let live’. They take no responsibility in sharing truth for the sake of the Gospel; therefore, they end up offending God. The “hoodlums” do not care to align with what they believe Christians ought to believe and do. No, they want to be apparently rebellious; yes, the exact opposite to what they know God is about. They strive to side with chaos just to be on point with what is popular in our culture. I will never understand why a dead lady with pregnant with child is counted as two murders in an assault or car accident; however, an abortion is not considered murder.

Many have given me counsel on how I should change my perspective on these pertinent matters. They share how God does not give me any right to judge. However, I must remind them that we as Christians are not only given the right to say what the Bible says, but we are to take responsibility as dual citizens to spiritually influence government, laws, and world decisions. Our lives are hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). Therefore, our raised position takes precedent and priority. The Word of God is our centrality of focus; it ever directs our stand on matters. I ask them, “Hey, what does God say?”

PRAYER: Lord, again, I thank You for Your Word. For it is sharper than any two-edged sword yet loving to the sinner who realizes their need for the Savior. I am grateful that the Gospel can be made bold and clear in casual discussions. Continue to give us, Your children, the leverage and the courage to stand and plant seeds of life, the gospel message, wherever we go. In Jesus’ Name-Amen.
