From The 2024 Vault: We Must Vote

SCRIPTURE: "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." Matthew 6:9-13

“I don’t like either candidate.” “I’m just not gonna vote.”  “Can they just stop talking so Christians can be more comfortable voting for them?” These are actual quotes from Christians I’ve talked to in church. Maybe you can relate to their sentiments. Maybe you feel the same way? So what do we do as Christians when we feel conflicted when we see and, hear things we dislike and disagree with from both candidates? The way we need to think is policies over party and personalities.

In Matthew 6:10 we find this line included in the Lord’s Prayer: “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” This means that we are asking God’s reign would come here on earth as it currently is in heaven. We pray that God’s kingly reign would invade our world. This can only happen in our country when we vote for policies that measure up to our biblical standards of moral conduct and that matches our beliefs on all the issues. As believers, we are honoring and worshipping God when we play our part in the democratic process that we have been invited to participate in. God has called us to be “salt and light” to this world (Matthew 5: 13-14). We are called to preserve (salt) and guide (light) in this evil world. We can not fulfill this commandment if we hide our vote! We must understand that not voting is a form of voting. Edmund Burke once said, “All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.”

Voting is part of our Christian stewardship for this world. So it is our duty as Christians to vote for people who can get, put in place, policies with biblical standards for our society. If we don’t vote or vote for others who do not align with biblical standards then we are supporting Satan, the god of this world. Proverbs 11:3 “The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.” Saints, it’s a spiritual war. We cannot let the principalities and rulers of darkness control this age any longer (Ephesians 6:12). Get out and vote to preserve the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. Be blessed!

PRAYER: Dear LORD God, we pray that Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We thank You for the opportunity to vote so that we can help make an impact in our world today. Help us to look beyond the person. Help us to look past personalities and vote for the biblically standard policies the candidate can help put in place. Amen!
