An Expectation that Won’t Disappoint
SCRIPTURE: "And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You." Psalm 39: 7

There is a wonderful hymn called “The Solid Rock” in which the first stanza says, “My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness…” Hope means the sum total of expectation and confidence in something or someone. Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose hope is in the Lord.” Abraham hoped for the promised son and when the Lord took too long to fulfill His promise, Abraham took matters into his own hands and the world has been in chaos ever since.
When we put our hope into people and things we thus set ourselves up for great disappointment. God will then create a crisis for that unhealthy dependency to be challenged. When the heart is broken because of misplaced expectations, we must take full responsibility for our misplaced desires. Abraham in Genesis 22 is an example of having a misplaced hope reestablished as he obeyed and trusted God regarding Isaac. Psalm 62:5 says” My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.” May your expectation and hope be in God alone!!
PRAYER: Lord You alone are the only One to completely satisfy and truly trust. May my heart’s desire be for Your expectations to fulfill Your purposes in my life for Your Gory!!

Oh, how I'm so guilty of not waiting on the Lord and then being disappointed with my results. To learn to wait on the Lord is gain.
Amen. Lord forgive me when I misplace my hope and expectations in others rather in you alone!??
Holy Spirit, I invite you into my day to lead me and guide me so that my heart lines up with the Father’s will and expectation for today. Lord, you’re already in my tomorrow and yesterday is gone. Therefore, I ask that you help me to trust and obey!
This is a much revisited lesson for many of us, but our God is a MASTER-Teacher! Praise His name! Excellent devotional, Sis. Cheryl.
