FIVE YEARS LATER: Believe and Obey
SCRIPTURE: “But, why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say?” Luke 6:46

While Peter was on the housetop praying, “not so Lord” it was a self-contradicting response to the Lord’s command. How could Jesus be Peter’s Lord if he felt free to disobey His command?
The doctrine and practice of Lordship of Christ has been most controversial through the years in Christendom. Christians today refer to Jesus as Savior and Lord God. Nevertheless, they take liberty to question or even disregard His Word. There should never be justification/occasions for questioning Christ’s authority, regardless of one’s intellect or circumstances. The Lord rebuked Peter (Acts 10:14), (Matthew 16:22). It was not Peter’s prerogative, nor is it ours, to question the Word of the Lord -- even when we don’t understand it. Peter did repent.
That kind of attitude can have eternal consequences. Jesus warned those who would profess Christ’s Lordship without being real, “Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord,…and then will I declare unto them. I never knew you: depart from me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matthew 7:22-23). Yes, Peter learned a valuable lesson. He eventually confessed, “Christ is Lord of all” (Acts 10:36). We who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation (Acts16:31) should seek to believe, trust and obey His Word in all things.
Prayer: Lord, I acknowledge that Your Word is truth, and is meant to be obeyed no matter how we feel. Help us to believe, trust and obey Your truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
