Thank You, But Lord, I Got This

SCRIPTURE: “The king spoke, saying, 'Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a
royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?'” Daniel 4:30: 30
Young Sampson had just started walking a week ago. He was no longer holding onto tables and chairs, and young Sampson did not want any help. Sampson was 13 months old, and he was on the go. If mom tried to grab his hand, he swatted it away. He had it and when he stumbled, he got up by himself. Young Sampson could walk and use a spoon, and he did not want any help even when the food fell off the spoon. He indeed was a toddler, and the world revolved around him. He was the king of his world.

Aren’t we like Young Sampson, sometimes, swatting God’s hand away? Basically, saying to the Lord, “I don’t need You, I got this”. Too many times, we take the Lord for granted believing that we are self-sufficient, not needing the power of God to help us and sometimes even turning away the assistance the Lord sends our way. We often forget everything we have, everything we can do is because of the Lord. Ease of life can make us unwittingly go about life like we got this.

Or are we like King Nebuchadnezzar, walking about life boasting about how great we are, how we did this, and we did that and because of us everything around us is great? Regardless, if you are Young Sampson, unwittingly pushing the Lord away or King Nebuchadnezzar knowingly pushing the Lord away or just not acknowledging His power, the pride of life can put us in a place of dissention with the Lord. The Bible tells us that the earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell in it. (Psalm 24:1). Even our bodies are not our own (1 Corinthians 6:19). And lastly, every good and perfect gift comes from the Lord (James 1:17); even our talents and skills come from the Lord. So, as we go about life remember that even those things we don’t think about, like breathing, comes from the Lord.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for taking You for granted. Forgive us for thinking that there are some things that we can handle without You. Thank you for Your patience with us when we act like toddlers. Thank you for the lesson of King Nebuchadnezzar. Thank you for loving us so much that You blessed us with gifts that we can use to bring You glory. Thank you for loving us so much that You gave Your only Son to be our redemption of sin. In Jesus name, Amen.
