Believing God’s Promises

SCRIPTURE: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
After a great achievement, has the reality of the weight of the new role come crushing down? In the case of Joshua none of his elder peers who mentored him, some for good others for bad, entered the promise land with him. His life had been one adventure after the next, seeing God’s daily provision, protection, direction firsthand. No one had to tell him the story, he saw it for himself-a living witness, literally being prepared for the next chapter with directions, precious promises, and assurances from God.

What is the next chapter for which you are being prepared? There might be some trepidation and understandably so. The unknown is a place of both wonder and fear and for the servant who is willing, God uses both to hone the skills and gifts He has fore ordained that we should walk in with laser focus. Should the expanse of the new role become overwhelming, remember, this is His work and we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus that God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10).

Your strength and conviction are what’s needed. Afraid? “God has not given you a spirit of fear. (2 Timothy 1:7)” Dismayed? God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33),” and neither will He operate nor prosper you in it. The best promise ever is, “the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Spouses, friends, pets, while very effective companions, have their limitations. Isaiah 41:10 reiterates Joshua 1:9, “Fear not, for I am with you: be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” With promises like these we can be “confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; (Philippians1:6)” No matter the next chapter God leads you, may this promise comfort your heart and remind you that you are never alone.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for the purity of Your Word. Repeatedly we hear, “I will never leave nor forsake you, (Hebrews 13:5)”  Thank You Jesus and may we all trust in God and His ability to fulfil this promise all the days of our lives. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
