Prayer For Humble Living

SCRIPTURE:
I Peter 5:5-12
Our God and Father in Heaven, up to You we look for the guidance and help that is so necessary to live in this world. The unpredictability of life’s circumstance has made Your grace so essential for us to live and move and have our being as Your sons and daughters. As for me Your grace, over 45 years, has become far more than something I sing about in my worship services, but it has become a real necessity in our day to day living and we cannot survive without Your active involvement in our lives. Father, as wonderful as the thought that You have in times past, and in this present time, and have promised in the future to provide grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16), I realize that what may block grace is the sometimes subtle, yet real issue of pride in my heart. It is in me that sense of enablement from the abilities You have given me in the first place, that I allow to cause me to forget that even my smallest successes and accomplishments are solely about praise to the glory of Your grace given to me through Christ Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Please forgive me today, and any of us who call Jesus our Savior, for any form of pride or even any form of self-sufficiency that exalts itself against the knowledge of You and the manifold grace that has been sufficient and supplied in our times of need (Hebrews 4:16). Whether it’s grace to respond to one another with humility in order and decency, or whether it is grace to resist the devil in our spiritual warfare in this world, or whether it is grace to stand, endure, persevere, and trust You through our times of trial and suffering, we agree that it is You that has kept us and brought us this far according to Your will.
So Father in Heaven, it is our desire to be and remain humble in our attitudes and responses to You and to one another. Since You resist the proud, but give grace to the humble (James 4:7), we want to be in that number You can lavish with Your abundant grace that will ultimately reveal Your glory in and through our lives. The humility that we have seen in the example of our Lord Jesus is the humility we desire to be in us, so that we like our Lord will be submissive and obedient to the fullest and lowest extent of Your will, that is required of us to live out the purposes that have been assigned to our lives. In Jesus Name, this is our heart felt prayer today, amen and amen.
