Gear Up for The Journey

SCRIPTURES: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed
away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
Post salvation, I had to be humbled to see the Lord high and lifted. I thought it was enough
just to know the Lord as Savior. My life, even in Christ continued with all of its ups and downs, ebbs and flows. Though I had fervor and fire for the gospel, God used a minister (at my childhood church) to advise me to enlist at the Baltimore School of the Bible (BSOB). The minister in his wisdom from God knew I needed to learn more of the God I said I loved. What better way to do this than to strategically study His Word.

I had to allow God to break up my fallow ground, and lift the mud off of my eyes. I needed to be acclimated to expository teaching of the scriptures, the unveiled role of the Holy Spirit, and, of course, the necessity of I John 1:9. I would read scripture just as I would read any other material. When I came across Psalm 37:4, I believed I had found a verse that would readily appeal to an unbeliever. This verse would attract many to come to a saving knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ, so I made it a point to memorize. “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Without a learned teacher of scripture, I was unable to capture the life of this verse. God, in all of His wisdom and grace conveys what we know happens often: We are creatures who become like minded with the one with whom we spend the most time. Therefore, pleasing and embracing God will transform our character, our behaviors and yes, our desires, too. Our fleshly and selfish desires dissipate. We will actually start to want what God wants.

Using Psalm 37:4, we are able to lay hold of the phenomenon expressed in Romans 8:29. The redeemed will come to look more like the Son of God, our Lord, our Savior; yes, The Christ. A new believer would be amiss to simply be saved. The gospel message of our Lord is so much more. Therefore, we should prepare to grasp all of God’s perspective, path and purpose for life. Sound Biblical vehicles, such as Bible schools/studies, and churches help us to accomplish solid foundations. For it is the Holy scriptures that will makes it possible to learn Him and to experience life His way.

PRAYER: Lord, we thank You so much for Your everlasting love and Your determination to carry us from death to life in and by Your Son. Help us to stay amazed and at awe of what You have done and will continue to do for us. We want to always see You in all of Your glory and honor that we would be certain to carry out Your agenda. And we will share with others the benefits we possess in You. In Jesus’ Name-Amen!
