FIVE YEARS LATER: - More Of Him

SCRIPTURE: "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you …" James 4:8a
The truth is the more time you spend with people, the more likely you are to be influenced by them, in good ways and in not-so-good ways. It’s the same with God – spend time with Him and (prayerfully) you will become more like Him. Who else should we be more like??

God desires to be in our midst; He wants to spend time with us, no matter what’s going on in our lives. It’s almost like when you have/had a boyfriend/girlfriend – you wanted to spend as much time with him/her as possible. Sitting on the phone listening to each other breathe all because neither of you wanted to be the first to hang up. Or waking up to hear the dial tone in your ear because someone finally disconnected the call.

Our Heavenly Father wants us to talk to Him, and He wants to talk to us! He already knows everything about every one of us, nothing is hidden from Him – the good, the bad, AND the ugly! Yet He still longs for an intimate/personal relationship with us! The only way we can get more of Him is if we spend quality time with Him – reading and studying His Word, praying to Him, listening for His voice, communing with Him, doing things that take our attention away from everything else but Him!

Spending time with the Father is precious time spent indeed! In those times of quietness, realize that you are communicating with the One who created everything and everyone. What a privilege!!! Don’t take that time for granted – it is needed, it is beneficial, and it cultivates an intimate relationship that is everlasting. Becoming more like Him requires reading and studying His Word, prayer, fellowship, and communing with Him on a personal and corporate level. How else will we receive more of Him? How else will we become more like Him??

PRAYER: Oh God! My heart’s desire is to be with You -- to please You, to worship You, to honor You in every way You deserve! Forgive me for wasting valuable, precious time doing things that have no eternal value and bring You no glory. Thank You for hearing me when I call, even when You haven’t heard from me like You should. You are a such a gracious, forgiving God! Thank You for allowing things in my life that draw me nearer to You. It may not feel good but help me to trust that You are working all things together for my good and for Your glory! In Jesus’ Name I always pray, AMEN!
