Prayer For a Fresh Awareness of the HOLY SPIRIT
Today marks the last day of our Bible Scripture and Prayer with Pastor Wayne Cockrell. We pray that your heart were encouraged by these devotionals!

SCRIPTURE:
John 14:16-18; 16:12-15; Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 5:18-21
Father in heaven, we are thankful today to You and Your Son for the gift of the Holy
Spirit. It is unusual for many of us to focus upon and acknowledge the Holy Spirit
specifically in our prayers, but once we have understood His specific role and work in
our salvation, how can we not say thank You for Him and thank You to Him for being
both the gift and also the specific giver of the things of God to us who believe. As we
bow before You according to Your instructions about how we are to pray, we are not
without gratitude for the gift of the Holy Spirit’s presence in us who was and is the
member of the Godhead that enabled us to believe unto the salvation that been
accomplished for us, and the one who works in us to become the sanctified sons and
daughters of the living God. Father God, it was the Lord Jesus who first told us that He
would give us the gift of the Holy Spirit to do the internal work that focused us back to
the centrality of the Father and the Son. It is true that the gift of His presence is not
something that we deserved or earned, and we are guilty at times of forgetting about
His specific work of making the reality of the grace of God miraculously practical and an
intimately personal matter in our lives (Romans 8:9,16). Oh Father God, it just seems
appropriate the more we learn about the gift of Him we do give praise that He also is
Your guarantee that is our assurance that the salvation we have in Christ is a
permanent and eternal matter, and through Him we are kept and sealed as a personal
possession of the Lord Jesus until He returns for us who believe (Ephesians 1:13,14).
Hallelujah, for so great a gift that is both the power and the proof that we are genuinely
the children of the true and living God. It is enough Lord God, that He is both Your gift
and guarantee that elicits praise about Him, but has also been to us the giver and our
guide in all matters that You have prepared for all that love You (I Corinthians 2:9-15).
The spiritual enlightenment that enables us to see and lay hold of in our faith in ways
the natural and unbelieving person can never attain. His presence in us is also a
reminder to us that You keep the promises that give us according to Your timing and
according to Your ways (Luke 24:49).
Please Father in heaven, as we offer this prayer of praise for the Holy Spirit, we do pray
also for a greater life of knowing His presence intimately, and understanding more and
more what it is to walk in the Spirit, to pray in the Spirit, to be led by the Spirit, and to be
filled with the Spirit so that through Him we will be able to more fully and freely praise
and glorify our God for this indescribable gift of salvation. In Jesus’ name we pray
today, amen and amen.
