God’s Grace Is Sufficient?

SCRIPTURE: “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
Once, during a very difficult time in life it felt as if God should have been doing more. Many days and nights went by, and my prayers went seemingly unanswered. I cried out to God, but nothing changed. My situation hadn’t gotten better or worse. Grace was hanging around but the fog from the pity party was so thick I couldn’t see it. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months and I continued to blame God for my problems. One day, I collected myself and prayed unselfishly. God finally answered and said, “My grace is sufficient”. I did not like or understand that answer. I wondered, what did it mean? I asked myself has my praying been in vain.

Have you ever felt that you were being cheated by God? Have you ever been in such darkness that you forgot what Grace felt like? Sometimes, we must be reminded that grace is the unmerited/undeserving favor of God. Favor is an act of kindness bestowed upon you that is beyond what is due or usual. Grace is the free and unmerited favor of God and when we really think about it, His grace is sufficient. During times of struggle, we sometimes forget that God’s grace is why we arrived home safely; God’s grace is why the medication we took actually worked, or that despite our groaning and complaining God’s grace is why God still provides for us, and mostly God’s grace is shown toward us when we sin because we live to see another day when what we deserved was death. God’s favor is experienced in sickness and health, in the storm and out of the storm. When you really think about it, God’s grace is more than sufficient even when the darkness of the situation is making it hard to see.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Creator of all things, ruler over all things, please help us to understand that Your grace in our lives is sufficient. Please help us understand that without Your grace we’d have nothing and be nothing. Lord, help us understand and accept that You always know and do what’s best for us. Forgive us Lord for being selfish and ungrateful. Your Word says that the wages of sin is death yet here we are - that’s grace. In our human frailty we have taken You for granted, often creating our own negative situations and blaming You: for that I ask for forgiveness. Thank You, Lord, for Your grace and Your mercy. Thank You for Your patience with us. And thank You for Your Son, Jesus the Christ who died unselfishly on the cross providing me and the world with undeserving and unlimited grace! In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
