DEEP ARMOR FOR THE STEEP CLIMB

We begin February with devotionals based on our prayer list . For the next week our focus will be on  Dressed In the Whole Armor of God for Spiritual Warfare  from Ephesians 6:10-18. As Pastor Cockrell adamantly reminded us last month, meditate on this Word, Saints!
SCRIPTURE: "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—" Ephesians 6:10-18
When we think of armor mostly we think of something worn outwardly to shelter one against an outside assault; a helmet to spare injury to the head; a shield to protect the body; a breastplate to defend one's vitals, and so forth. These set free ain't for knuckles and knees, but the 'whole armor of God' defends the deeper things and the eternal things and the most real things. These are for the steep climb that grip strength, lunging, grappling, hitting, and leaping cannot help.  And not to be remiss, with its defensive capacity we also have with the Word, our 'sword of the Spirit', a sure offense in the face of opposition.

When well worn, the things of the spirit flourish... for the outworking of the spirit relies upon the Spirit's inworking by which we "Shine Jesus' Light"... His yoke is easy, and His burden is light, and the armor, unlike most armor thought of, is compatible for doing the steep climb of life, meeting the common day [and the uncommon day] with the permitting of a grace-filled gaze.

Let's be resolute within the New Year that His Mercy has granted us: Bless God with holy gladness, and bid the devil 'Adios'. We won't let anyone push our buttons so readily... So that no one gets on our last nerve, we'll keep a pair in the glove compartment [figuratively speaking]... We choose to not add fuel to the fire... nor will we pass the buck... no climbing the wall ... no dragging our heels... no spinning our wheels... and certainly no pushing our luck [because luck ain't real].  With all of our yielding may we all aspire to be more like Jesus, day by day,  His will and His ways, nothing more and nothing less. Yes, put on the whole armor of God, and let it shine!

Prayer: In this, Lord-God, help us. Lord-God, in this I pray, help me. Amen.

Yes Lord, help my not to rely on my feelings, my opinions, my strength. May we stand on Your Word, holding fast; and May we be guided by Your Spirit in all that we do and say, and may our lights shine in these last days.
