PROPHECIES OF JESUS: The Messiah Would be Son of the Most High

The Birth of Jesus Christ occurs in the New Testament, but its prophetic origins can be found in several passages of the Old Testament. Through the month of December our Devotional Team will take a look at Old Testament Prophecy and the New Testament Fulfillment of the birth and life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Be encouraged as we celebrate our Savior this Christmas Season!
SCRIPTURES:
OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY: 2 Samuel 7:12-16; Isaiah 9:6-7
2 Samuel 7:12-16;
12 “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the [a]blows of the sons of men. 15 But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before [b]you. Your throne shall be established forever.” ’
Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

NEW TESTAMENT FULFILLMENT: Luke 1:31-33
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
The birth of Christ was foretold but not all believed.
His reign would be everlasting something no king has ever achieved.

He indeed is the unblemished lamb come to save us all.
The prophets and angels told of His coming and Mary and Joseph answered the call.

Not really knowing what to expect or think;
Mary trusted God, gave birth and then raised a King.

The prophets and angels spoke of a soon to come king whose greatness would be achieved.
The prophets foretold this miracle and yet only some believed.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father thank you for Your patience when we don’t believe and when we
don’t trust You. Oh to be like Mary and just trust You. I am ever so grateful that the world
believing didn’t change Your course of action. Thank you for Your love and commitment towards a sinful world that despite of our disobedience, disbelief, and dissention You still sent Your only begotten son to save us. Thank you, Lord for grace and mercy because without it I would be lost. Thank you for Your word, that foretold the coming of Christ and that documented the fulfillment of that prophecy. Lord, thank you for Jesus, my forever King. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
