PROPHECIES OF JESUS’ BIRTH: The Messiah Would be a Descendant of Isaac

The Birth of Jesus Christ occurs in the New Testament, but its prophetic origins can be found in several passages of the Old Testament. Through the month of December our Devotional Team will take a look at Old Testament Prophecy and the New Testament Fulfillment of the birth and life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  Be encouraged as we celebrate our Savior this Christmas Season!
SCRIPTURES:
OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY: Genesis 17:19
Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.
NEW TESTAMENT FULFILLMENT: Luke 3:34
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
23 Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli, 24 the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Janna, the son of Joseph, 25 the son of Mattathiah, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Maath, the son of Mattathiah, the son of Semei, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah, 27 the son of Joannas, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er, 29 the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, 30 the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim, 31 the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David, 32 the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, 33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, 34 the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, 35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, 36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, 37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, 38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
So many sons between 'the son of God' and 'God the Son', with so many stories distinguishing each - ranging from the majestic to the fallen, from noteworthy to obscure, with some having seasons of each; yet not chaotic but as detailed as a choice tapestry boasting the earthy and the eternal. GOD is here offering His intention from eternity-past through to eternity-yet, with the language of lineage prophetically declaring a divine signature, including even up to now everyone of us, within the purposing of GOD. Being rightly mindful however, Jesus is distinctive above all others. "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1: 1,14

Heaven's downward gaze begat Heaven's 'Yes' here: Emmanuel, GOD with us. Celestial sympathies bring your mystery. Sing O' Bethlehem, sing!  And beholding, let us bless the everlasting covenant, having both a smile [and laughter]. Celebrate the history GOD brings. He is for all.  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3: 16

Prayer: Dearest Lord, lead us all into the majesty of this wondrous pause called Christmas. May the inworking of Grace expand our marveling of how much You have and are doing for the sake of our souls, and all souls! Let us prayerfully remember Your Mercy with hope as our gatherings may be amiss of some, and attended by others indifferent or callous to Your call. May we appreciate Christmas, for what it is and means, and share it as such - Heaven's reach of love in Jesus! Let us rejoice [exceedingly] and be glad in it! Holy Spirit, have Your way! Amen and Amen Merry Christmas. Amen.
