The Throne of Grace

Scripture: Hebrews 4:16 (CSB) -  Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.
(Mercy is not getting what you deserve; grace is getting what you don’t  deserve.)

Prayer is the believer’s passport (passageway/permit) into the spiritual realm anywhere or any time. So, “when you are tempted to give up, that temptation is an invitation to draw near to God’s throne so you may receive mercy and find grace.”(Tony Evans) True prayer is a spiritual approach, an expressed desire with the Creator of heaven and earth. Therefore, come to the throne with boldness. From your private place, pray to your Father who is in secret (Matt.6:6 CSB).

True prayer can never be without the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is essential to acceptable prayers. One can’t  pray without our Savior. Surely that will be an insult to Deity. Though many try, especially during the impact of the virus Covid 19 on this universe. All over the lands people are praying. Despite what the scripture says, the world truly believes that they are praying rightly. God is to be viewed in prayer as our heavenly Father. He is far from being a mere man. Our Savior has qualified the expression “our Father” with such words as “which art in heaven” (Matt. 6:9). He is reminding us that our Father is very much infinitely greater than we are. “Hallowed (holy) be thy name. Thy kingdom come” (Matt.6: 9-10), for Father is still to be regarded as King. In prayer we come to the throne of the Great God of the universe. He is the perfect one who still rules this universe.

Believers should approach the throne in a spirit of reverence. It is expected that we approach our Father with all the honor and praises due Him, willingly. Put aside all pride, malice and disputes, for only lowly reverence may come before the King,  where He is clothed in Majesty. Our King before whom we come is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. He is  “the blessed and only potentate” (I Tim. 6:15:). He is Lord alone of the earth. He shares His throne with none other. He has the divine right to sit there.

Approach the throne with joyfulness. The countenance should be lite up with shire delight. You are to be glad to stand before the throne in His presence. Tell Him about your heavy  sorrowful burdensome life. He can comfort You. Tell Him , if your sins are many. He can forgive them. Whenever you approach the throne it should be with complete submission. “ Not as we will,  but as You will”.

When you come to the throne; you ought to approach with great expectations. “ We do not come as if to the back door of mercy to receive scrapes-crumbs from the Master’s table.”  (Charles Spurgeon)  Do not ask sparingly. Seek great things, for you are before a great throne. He will do for you “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Eph. 3:20). For we have not because we ask not (Jam.4:2). At this place, I desire to  add another posture to coming to the throne of grace. Come with unwavering confidence. Believe that the King (Our Father) is to be trusted (Prov. 3:5,6). Trust the Lord because He is sovereign, and He keeps His promises.

We are called to the ”throne of grace”, not the throne of law. Blessed be God, we come to the throne of ultimate justice. All who believe will find it to be a throne of grace as well as justice; for He who sits upon that throne of grace will pronounce no sentence or condemnation against the man who is justified by faith.

Our King does not have a booklet of standard etiquette in His court as men do. The faulty, stammering of His children are not criticized by Him. Our Lord Jesus Christ amends making every prayer perfect. . To every sinner who thinks himself to be the worst sinner that ever lived, cry to the Lord, and  “seek ye the Lord while He may be found” (Isaiah 55:6).

Grace is enthroned. Grace came down to earth, and it met with sin. There was a long struggle, as grace seems to be trampled underfoot by sin. Victory won. Grace seized sin, carrying sin up to the cross and nailed it there. Sin was put to death forever.  Yes, Grace is enthroned today because Christ has finished His work and has gone into the heavens. Perhaps your approach to the throne of grace today speaks to the dispensation of grace, for grace reigns through righteousness to eternal life. Grace is reigning people, for grace is God;  and grace is love because God is love (I John 4:8). Come and bow down!

Prayer: Father who sit in heaven, Hallow be Your name in all the earth and in heaven. Thanks for Your mercy and grace, Your answering my prayers and Your powerful hands to completely restore my laptop to optimal functioning. I cried out to You in my time of need, and You answered. You even gave to me a new subject to pen as You abandoned the previous one. Thanks to the Holy Spirit who did not allow me to agonize over my situations. For You favored me in my desperate situation. I give You praise. In Jesus, Amen.
