The Indispensable Anchor

SCRIPTURE: “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one
which enters within the veil...” Hebrews 6:19 [NASB]
That the whole world lies under the sway of the evil one is perhaps one of the most relatable truths for a Christ follower to immediately grasp. [1 John 5:19] As a biblical principle, it is foundational to our understanding of what opposes us. Adversities, from a multitude of origins, including ourselves sometimes, are always brewing just over the horizon. (Job 5:7) Someone has said that we are always either coming out of some trial/ adversity, or on the cusp of entering one, and unless you personally know Jesus as your divine Anchor, your perpetual Lighthouse, your Bread of Life who keeps you spiritually nourished and focused on what matters most, you risk being sucked under by life’s undertows (i.e., trials, discouragements, and distractions). Just ask the psalmist David, prophets Elijah, Jeremiah, or anyone among your family or friends who has confided in you about their trials—all of which are common to the human condition. (1 Corinthians 10:13) Everyone is confronted by these---the child of
God is not exempted. The difference between us and nonbelievers is that we’ve been issued divine
marching orders to subject ALL of our responses to life’s trials to the lordship of our Christ. To this end, a two-way communion with Him—through habitual prayer and quality time in His Word—MUST BE our daily priorities!

On the global scene, more than ever, Christ followers must resist the efforts of the world system,
Satan, and the flesh, to drown out our influence by recurrent undertows of pejorative labels, such as “homophobe,” “narrow-minded,” “out-of-touch,” to name just a few. Our God has warned us that persecution must be expected because we purpose to walk in the light of God’s Word, the Bible. When I catch the occasional news story about the antichristian agendas of many elected leaders, and the world views and philosophies that teachers and others are being mandated to teach our impressionable children, it carries the phrase “a different world” light years beyond the title of that old T.V. show. More than ever we must courageously obey our Lord who commands us to pray without ceasing and walk by faith, not by sight. We must love Christ Jesus enough to obey Him by serving Him with gladness (Jn. 14:15; Ps. 100:2). We must be diligent in serving and representing Him in this world because “night is coming when NO man can work (John 9:4)! Most importantly, may we purpose to be, like King David of old, who served the purpose of God in his own generation…and was laid among his fathers.” (Acts 13:36)

PRAYER: Dear Father, please help us as Christ followers to, like David of old, serve the purposes of God in our own generation and remain committed to growing in the love and knowledge of Jesus, our soon coming Lord and King. Thank You and amen!
