Preach the Word

Scripture: “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:1-5
In this great dynamic of God showing mercy, there is a threat. Jonah was going into Nineveh to save Nineveh, but the message is (a threat) one of judgement that Nineveh will be destroyed and yet the message is one of mercy. God says, “Jonah, preach the message I tell you!” I want to tell you that many of us are preachers and are guilty of not preaching the message that God gives us. Because if we were on point, we would be preaching more messages of judgement and not feeding candy and sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie all the time. Sometimes you gotta have that okra preaching, sometimes you have that spinach and kale and those turnips and that squash preaching and all that stuff that I don’t like. You gotta have it! Because the message God sends to a world is not just a candy message!

Prayer: Forgive us Lord when we spare Your people the rod of Your Word. It is a hard Word at times, heavenly Father. Nonetheless, it is living, powerful, sharper than any two edge sword. The incisions it makes is purposeful to expose the thoughts and intent of our hearts. Amen!

It’s that hard Word that convicts the soul, shed light on our sin, exposes our hearts and our thought. Thank you Pastor for giving us that okra preaching. Sometimes we want to throw it up, but God says, “Swallow It!” Amen!
