Listen, God is Speaking to You

Scripture: (Psalms 119:105 NKJV) Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Through years past, I served in youth ministry. When reading Scripture, youth were to ask the Lord: What are you saying to me? How do you want me to apply this to my life? What am I to learn? When you read Scripture with a yielded, teachable heart, the Holy Spirit will work through God’s Word to illuminate your walk. God’s Word leads in the way of righteousness, trains you in the truth, convicts of sin, alters your thinking, influences your decision making, and helps you face and handle difficult situations in a manner that honors and brings God glory.
The lighthouse guided ships at sea to safe passage for centuries. Man relied on that strong light to guide. Lighthouses are now obsolete. Sophisticated computerized instruments on ships replace their usefulness. God’s Word does not grow less useful outdated, nor does it become like a faded garment. His Word shall stand forever (Isaiah 40:8 NKJ). Other Bible translations use terms like exists forever, remains, abides, endures, or lasts forever. Isaiah 40:8 is one of my favorite scripture passages over the years. God’s Word is eternal, inspired, all sufficiently, inerrant, and authoritative.
The Word of God is characterized as a light that is able to guide believers through life. Here the Word is likened to a lamp that directs our feet while walking in a dark and dangerous world. God’s Word provides illumination. The Word lights our path causing us to see our circumstances as God sees them. That in itself drives us to practice obedience so that we might live our lives without stumbling.
Beloved, are you hearing God through Scripture today?
Prayer: Lord. Thank you for speaking to me through Your eternal Word. Today, help me have bent ears and a yielded heart to all you are saying to me through Your “all-sufficient” Word. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
