Sufficient for the Day

Scripture:  Matthew 6:34 (AMP) - “So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own.  Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.”

Oh the joy and peace we would know if we more consistently obeyed our Savior’s decree expressed in today’s Scripture verse.  The “to-do” list, potential set-backs and challenges, the very expectations we muse over during our morning coffee are enough for us to handle one day at a time.  Why do we struggle so with that truism?  Why do so many of us trust our vehicles’ global positioning systems?  Even though they offer a measure of security for the more directionally challenged, truthfully, at times we rely with greater confidence upon these technological devices than we do upon Him who knows the number of days we each shall live!  (Ps. 139:16)  We know that our God is infinitely more awesome and worthy of our trust than any man-made construction such as a g.p.s., yet we struggle with containing our desire to be in control—a ridiculous aspiration at best and a true absurdity!

Since God’s love for us exceeds our ability to even truly comprehend, says Ephesians 3:19, is it too beyond our grasp to trust Him more than we trust our own fallible and  unreliable human reasonings?  (Prov. 3:5, 6)  We “borrow” so much unrest and even discontentment for ourselves by our ofttimes re-emerging flirtations with walking by sight, rather than by what God, the Living Bread, has declared.  It sounds so “Christianity 101, and yet it bears repeating from time to time.  It’s like a great preacher once said--God has given us sixty-six Books filled with decrees of both prescribed and prohibited behaviors—the latter of which are NOT given to be a killjoy on our experience of pleasure in this life, but to say “Don’t hurt yourself; I love you!!”

Brothers and sisters in Christ, let’s determine to do a better job of truly trusting His love and grace toward us, which encompasses every life scenario, situation, and experience we will ever encounter during this earthly pilgrimage.  Let’s reckon it as true that sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

Prayer:  Dear Father, forgive us for fretting and worrying over life’s potential and actual struggles, trials, and setbacks.  Help us to more consistently trust You—while availing ourselves of the privileges of continual prayer and godly wisdom.  We long to be filled throughout our entire being with the “fullness of God.”  We long to experience the richest measure of Your divine Presence.  (Ephes. 3:19)  Thank You; in Christ’s name—Amen!
