Earthly Life: A Pitstop
Scripture: Psalms 16:11 (NKJV) - You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
What do we do at “pit-stops” in the midst of a road trip? We approach them with specific purposes in mind, don’t we? We are continually conscious of the fact that the pitstop is not our final destination. Each task we perform has a purpose. We may have to meet some bodily needs, such as visit the restroom, get more food, re-gas our vehicles, replenish our water supply, or do some preventative thing.
As in life, we must remain focused, avoiding what could be costly and unnecessary distractions—for instance, glancing back too often, second-guessing the road already traveled. Oh, and let’s not forget to do a headcount of ALL our passengers before resuming our journey—you know, the children, Aunt Freda, the dog…. Such things have been known to happen!
We need to also recognize that some pitstops are invigorating, reviving us to press on—for example, a picturesque landscape, or a breathtaking sunrise or sunset! All the while, we are never losing sight of our destination. According to Philippians 4:4, our Lord desires that we enjoy life’s pitstops, and the entire journey more by viewing ALL of it as parts of precious time investments with benefits, such as teachable moments, expanding our appreciation of His all-sufficient grace, just to name a few. Life’s pitstops, if we’re perceptive, can contribute to a meaningful legacy left in the hearts of those with whom we’re traveling!
Prayer: Dear Abba, at each stop-over of our life’s journey, grant us special wisdom to follow Your divine roadmap with focused and dedicated hearts. Thank You, LORD! Amen!
