Making Me Uncomfortable, Everywhere I’m Comfortable

Scripture:  John 8:42-47 -  Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

I’ve realized that sin simply isn’t enough
The Lord has proven time again, His grace is sufficient

Yet, I choose my ways foolishly, despite it all
Wisdom tells me, pride comes before the fall

I have failed You, denied You, and rejected You
I’m guilty of plenty, and my faith is discontinued

So, I’m standing at the fork in the road
Anticipating the Lord’s wrath to slowly unfold

Often, I have deceived myself by making a heartfelt choice
Turning away from the truth and the Holy Spirit’s voice

Even when undecided, Satan becomes my representative
Keeping me in the gray area for ministry to become tentative

But God!

You have a way of making Yourself my only alternative
Chastening me in love until I am humbled and cooperative

You make me uncomfortable with what I’m comfortable with
Convicting my lifestyle, to escape taking an ill-advised risk

Causing me to pray that you are not fair
If I get what I deserve, I am hopeless in despair

Ultimately,
He makes me uncomfortable when I’m comfortable with unguarded pleasures or sin
The reason He challenges me with circumstances are to find comfort in only Him

Prayer - I’m thankful you manage me with Your best interest at hand. When I get above and beyond Your will you intervene with discomfort or even pain. Surely, my matters could be worse, Father. To be of You and to acquire what You have for me, I must believe and follow Your plans. So, thank You for convicting me. The scripture tells me in John 8:47, “He who is of God hears God’s words;” I love You, Lord! In the name of Your Son the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!
