The Mind of God

SCRIPTURE: "For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore, you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob." Malachi 3:6
In a world where new challenges face us every day, can we really trust that God will be the same today and tomorrow? Perhaps one’s response will weigh heavy on their spiritual foundation. According to (Isaiah 40:8) “God does not change. The writer of Hebrews, states “Jesus is the same yesterday and forever (Hebrews 13:8).” What He has promised, is His promise. He says what He means, and He means what He says. For all His promises and covenants are sure. His character remains the same. It is clear that God does not change. You can count on it. The Bible records God as saying: “I am the Lord (Jehovah); I do not change” (Malachi 3:6).

It would indeed be a scary thing if the Almighty God was found to be a liar of this very Word, the holy Bible. The Lord is faithful, trustworthy and true. Scripture bears witness to this truth:

Deuteronomy 7:9 - “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;”
Deuteronomy 31:8 - “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
Psalms 36:5 - “Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.”
II Thessalonians 3:3 – “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”

Throughout Genesis to Revelations, the scriptures attest that God does not lie:

Numbers 23:19 - “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
I Samuel 15:29 – “And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.”
Hebrews 6:18 – “that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.”

The Bible records that God never changes His mind, because God is omniscient. He knows all things from the beginning, and He is immutable. He is unchanging. There is no shadow of turning in Him. In Scripture, one may think that God’s threat of judgement upon His people, may cause Him to have a change of mind. No matter what is said or done, He will give grace and mercy. There is no instance in the Bible where God wondered or pondered on which course of action to take or had thoughts that the course of action taken was not a good idea or unwise.

Does God speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill? Has He not said and will not do it? God is unchangeable. He is all knowing and all wise. He cannot change!

PRAYER: Scripture bears witness that God is not a man, that He should lie, nor the son of man that he should repent. I desire to serve a God who is faithful, merciful, just, and filled with grace and love for those humans made in His image. Thank You, Father, for Your unchangeable character, which makes You unlike mere fallible men, while acting on Your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen
