The Christology of Christmas (Inspired by Pastor Wayne Cockrell’s Sermon)

SCRIPTURE: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11
What a gift and example we have in Jesus,
He sets the tone and purpose for the Christmas season.

He came down on our behalf to establish our pardon,
He walked with us, yet He remained God amongst us.

He was referred to as Emmanuel, while wrapped in human flesh,
A modeled example, as we can share the real story of His quest.

Not only is Christ an example, but a great example,
Despite His deity, meekness and humility were His character samples.

Jesus showed sinners how to operate with one another,
Operating with no reputation for others to discover.

Lord! You’ve encouraged believers to keep their minds on You,
Revealing Your willingness to complete Your Father’s will through His truth.

As we consider Christmas, Jesus must dominate what we hear, think, and see,
Seeking what God’s truth means, and then, what it means to me.

He gave up so much for His Father’s assignment to be fulfilled,
Jesus gave up His honor, glory, riches, and even His own will.

It is an extraordinary story written to expose a powerful gift through an ordinary Man
Christmas is the birthday celebration for a Servant who revealed His Father’s salvation plan.

Therefore, let’s have a Merry Christmas and celebrate our divine reward,
A season that edifies Jesus is God, Jesus is savior, and Jesus is Lord!

PRAYER: Happy Birthday Jesus! You are worthy of being praised. Our prayer is that the world celebrates Your name throughout this holiday season. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen!
