What Manner of Man is This?

SCRIPTURE: “Inasmuch as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same…” Hebrews 2:14 NKJV
Pause for a moment and consider the wonder of the God of the universe. Even though we read of His omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence throughout the Scriptures, are you simply amazed at His desire for personal relationship with the likes of us?—creatures who, without His wondrous atonement on our behalf, accomplished through our Lord Jesus, would be hopelessly and forever at enmity with Him? Romans 8:7 says, “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.”  Ephesians 2:15 says, “ having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,”.

Our Savior’s daily dispensations of mercy, tender lovingkindness, and faithfulness toward us demonstrate His divine temperament so powerfully that none but the blessed Holy Spirit could open our understanding such that we can “…comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge,…” (Ephesians 3:18). In addition to our Lord’s bountiful mercy and grace, I am completely awestruck by His willingness to both empathize and sympathize with us ! (Hebrews 2:14, “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,” and Hebrews 4:15, “ For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”) Through a continual recognition of His holiness and relentless love, how can we redeemed creatures of clay-- chosen to spend eternity with Him—desire anything more than drawing closer to Him by how we live and treat one another in His presence?

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, we thank You and are continually amazed by Your willingness to condescend to our lowly estate through Your only begotten Son-- just to save a people in whom You can delight and for whom so great a price was paid! We cannot help but exclaim, ‘What a WONDER You are!’ Help us to retain that wonder each day in a world that has great need of seeing the Light of the World reflected in those of us who profess to know You personally. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
