RECALLING HIS 'CHARITY' THIS CHRISTMAS

SCRIPTURE: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9
While 'getting' seems to be on steroids during the holidays, one other thing is noteworthy as a contrast. 'Giving' as well is exceptional, and with needier times, the call for sacrificial giving is felt even more. No doubt there is a secular and commercially popular 'Christmas' that informs us of Santas, abundant toys, spectacular 'sales' on autos and gadgets, and fancy clothing. Knowing that many are on holiday the movie theaters push the latest showings, almost like drugs, luring the many with their trailers. There is no shortage of fast-food commercials. After all, who wants to be cooking [or eating healthy] while all of those sports contests are crafted for our delight. Elite athletics has indeed become lucrative entertainment. And, judging from the volume of advertisements, what would Christmas be without beer? But, less screen worthy is the work of those who give, especially now. Being fair to the observation, not all giving comes through Christians, but much does, and this is only logical for all who are students of the book.

Christ as 'redeemer', has put redeeming into our curriculum. Christ as 'kinsman' has elevated relationship. Love which forgives is at the heart of both. We, being loved, are invited to love... which as an action, gives. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoso believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)   "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." (1 John 4:16)

The 'wealth' of God was revealed in poverty, His gift, to bless with the wealth of His Spirit to usward. "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them 'Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.' For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:8-11
His charity is our salvation... and no other gives like Him. "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich." (2 Corinthians 8:9)

PRAYER: Heavenly and eternal Father, I offer thanks to You, given the depth of Your care for me, to come, enter my world from heaven and raise me, as an act of love, through Christ. I deserved nothing, but You gave it all. Thank You Jesus. Bless You God. Amen.
