Mary Absolutely Knew

SCRIPTURE: “Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have
found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son,
and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.’” Luke 1:30-33 - 30
An extremely popular Christmas song asked interesting questions throughout the entire song. It starts by asking; “Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will one day walk on water? Mary, did you know that your Baby Boy will save our sons and daughters? Did you know that your Baby Boy has come to make you new? This Child that you’ve delivered will soon deliver you”. The song continues asking if Mary knew about the miracles that the Child she carried would perform - Mary absolutely knew. The song asked if Mary knew that her “Baby Boy is Lord of all creation, that her Baby Boy will one day rule the nations, that her Baby Boy is heaven’s perfect lamb, that the Baby sleeping in her arms is the great I Am” – Mary absolutely knew. There is no doubt that Mary knew that when she kissed her Baby Boy that she was kissing the face of God.

Mary, unlike many, did not doubt what the angel said to her. Although she questioned how, she a virgin, would conceive she believed what the angel said. We know that there are many instances in the Bible where people did not believe: Sarah laughed in her heart when she heard that she would bear a son at 90 years old (Genesis 18:12). Zacharias doubted when he was told his prayers had been answered and that his wife would bear him a son in her old age (Luke 1:20). Doubting is a very human emotion. When Christ appeared to the disciples, after speaking to them which should have been enough, He immediately showed them His hands and side. Moreover, when Thomas was told by his brothers that they had seen the Lord, he doubted them stating “unless I see in His hands the print of the nails AND put my finger into the print I will not believe” (John 20:19-29). As believers, we tend to be more like Thomas, but should be more like Mary. We should believe what the Lord says and has said to us through His Word. However, we tend to be like so many others doubting that the Lord can do the impossible. (For with God nothing will be impossible - Luke 1:37), doubting that there is nothing too hard for the Lord (Is anything too hard for the Lord – Genesis 19:14), and needing to see in order to believe (Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed (Luke 20:29). So, Mary absolutely knew that her Baby Boy would one day walk on water. She knew that her Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters. She knew that her Baby Boy is the Lord of all creation and that He would one day rule the nations. Mary absolutely knew that her Baby Boy, heaven’s perfect lamb, was the Great I Am.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, let us have a heart like Mary, pure and clear in our purpose and Your will for us. Let us walk boldly in Your truths and be able to then walk confidently in the purpose You have for us. Lord, thank You for Jesus, the Christ who came in the most vulnerable form ever, a baby, and then endured just as us but without sinning. Lord, we honor You, we praise You, and we worship You this Christmas season. In Jesus name, Amen.
