When God Prefers You to Limp

SCRIPTURES: “But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisters the proud, but
giveth grace unto the humble.” James 4:6-7
“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
I had a 19 year-old young man as a patient. He had a life-changing motorcycle accident. He
shared with me and his mom how he remembered eating his breakfast on the morning of the accident; and how his mom yelled to him (as she often did), “Don’t ride that bike, Danny!” Well, he did. He sustained a traumatic brain injury and was unable to remember when he popped the wheelie and the vehicle that struck him. He laid in hospitals for greater than 2 months to receive care for all of his injuries. He revealed how he could not wait to share his experience with other young people who rode motorcycles without caution.

Danny will forever live with the scars and limp from this motor vehicle accident. His mom is so grateful for his change of heart, though. He stated with conviction that he will never ride the motorcycle like that again. Somehow, with the many hospital visits, Danny and his mom’s relationship had grown closer and much sweeter. “He actually listens to me, now,” his mom stated encouragingly at her son’s bedside.

Is this the reason for scars and limps? Are they to cause us to listen and have a better walk in life? With God there are no coincidences, but there is purpose. His purposes pull us to have clarity. The Lord in His grace, mercy, lovingkindness, and tender mercies, gives us opportunity to get it right. We are given another chance to gain great fellowship with Him. His Word is so true; He gives grace to the humble! Many times, we do no look at the traumatic event(s) that the Lord Jesus chooses to get our attention, as opportunities. For He determines the plan and purpose for our lives. Walking without a limp often causes us to walk in proudness of heart with no regard or true devotion to whom we know we ought to love. Therefore, the trials of life play a crucial role in causing us to repent and to gain an effective commitment to our faith in the Lord Jesus.

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for the scars and limps we have and will obtain. Let their existence be a constant reminder to walk worthy, humbly, and in obedience to all You have given us in Your son, the Christ. Help us to be intentional about presenting our testimony to others as a means of furthering and adding to Your kingdom. In Jesus’ Name-Amen!
