A Vessel God Uses

SCRIPTURE: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the
excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” II Corinthians 4:7
The vessel that God uses is one that experiences grace through suffering and
obedience. God liberally fills our lives with His grace and expects us to pour His
grace into the lives of others. Grace is the active investment and involvement from
God to undeserved people. (Pastor Wayne Cockrell)

Job speaks of life’s emptiness. Job 14:1-2 “Man who is born of woman is of
few days and full of trouble. He comes forth like a flower and fades away; he flees
like a shadow and does not continue.” Even Job 15:31 solidifies this emptiness by
stating “Let him not trust in futile things, deceiving himself, for futility will be his
reward.” Literally: emptiness rewards emptiness!

Every good thing can remind, beckon, and awaken in us a greater desire for
the elusive “something more.” The closest we get is a hint, an echo in a face, a
painting, a scene…And then it is gone. “Our best having’s are wanting’s,” said C.S.
Lewis. We were made for God, and in the end, nothing less will satisfy us. Without
Him, we are all empty. He alone fills the hungry with good things (Psalm 107:9).
