Who Do I Really Love?

SCRIPTURE: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15
SCRIPTURE: “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” James 4:4
One morning I examined who and what I woke up to,
Assessing my priorities that inspire what I say, think, and do.

Do I toot my own horn and begin to create a master plan,
Or do I listen to my Lord and place my goals in His hands?

I’m guilty of being motivated and persuaded by what the world has to offer,
Disregarding my calling by not pursuing what the Lord endorsed and sponsored.

What do my daily agenda, goals, and desires look like,
A reflection of worldly pursuits or is it shaped with plans that are Christ-like?

Do I show comfort in the world, in fact, is the world comfortable with me,
Are my dreams worldly-centered, or is Christ privately and publicly seen?

I have valued the world with a continual bond and relationship,
As I consider the time and effort spent, I would say it’s a friendship.

I’ve become an American idol with American dreams,
It’s hard to interpret my faith because I serve two teams.

Proclaiming one thing, but living another,
Sleeping with the enemy, I will soon discover.

The Word of God tells me not to love the world and the things in it,
However, this love compromises yet the world convinces us that we are winning.

Success or favor is not necessarily synonymous with the hand of God,
Loving the resources rather than the source denies our Lord’s sovereign part.

If I call the world my friend, I am calling the Lord my enemy,
The world’s values are not close to the Kingdom’s vicinity.

Lord! Remove this adulterous spirit that positions the world as the priority,
I really love You, but first I must allow You to have total seniority.

PRAYER: Lord! You deserve Your rightful place. Our allegiance to the world should not surpass our love for You. Redirect us, Lord! Give us wisdom and discernment as we aim to please You. In the matchless name of Jesus!
