REVIVAL: Lord Bring A Revival

45 Days of Praying for the Elections - DAY 38
SCRIPTURE: “For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord. “But on this one will I look: on him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.” Isaiah 66:2
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR is an effort to revive a person in cardiac arrest. It is the emergency procedure that combines chest compressions with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve and to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person in cardiac arrest. When successful, CPR brings a person back from the dead. They regain consciousness and their heart begins to beat again, and the blood begins to flow. Their lungs, once again fills with the breath of life! So, when we talk about a “spiritual revival” our spirits, which was once dead or near death, become renewed when we “DIE to self.” We are “REVIVED in the spirit” by God.

In Isaiah 66:2 God is talking about true worship and false worship. He shows us the difference between the two. God says that He will “look on” (bless) a certain person. One who is “poor and of a contrite spirit, who trembles at My Word.” We must honor and fear God first. This reverential fear results in humility, submission, and total obedience to Him. When we become “poor in spirit”, it’s like undergoing spiritual bankruptcy. We see our complete reliance on God’s grace and mercy in our lives. Understanding that God is in control and owns everything (Isaiah 66:1-2). He owns all, He has all, He controls all and we possess little to nothing without God’s provision and grace. When a person has been broken spiritually to where they completely surrender to what God wants and not their own wills and desires is the state that they can be revived. Once we die to self, God can breathe His life and strength back into us. Relying on God’s strength in times of trouble and weakness leads us to spiritual strength. Paul wrote in II Corinthians 12:10 – “I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

King David wrote Psalms 51 after Nathan the prophet confronted him concerning his sin with Bathsheba. David had guilt and remorse for his sins. He openly confessed and admitted them and pleaded for God’s forgiveness.
Psalm 51:1-4
“1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight;
so you are right in your verdict
and justified when you judge."

Then David prayed for a revival. He used phrases and words such as create in me, renew, do not cast, don’t take, and restore.

Psalm 51:10-12
"10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

We need to pray for our leaders that they understand their need for God’s presence in their lives. That they humbly come before God and express their need for Him. When a leader dies to self and begins to rely on God, the spiritual revival in them will lead to a great awakening and spiritual revival in the people. For when the leaders turn to God it will encourage others to do also. Pray for the spiritual revival of our leaders.

Prayer: Lord we pray now for our leaders. That they humble themselves and see themselves as mere men. That they see you as almighty God, high and on the throne. We pray that if they are far from following You that You draw them near. That they may see their wrong and repent. We pray they stand on Your Word and proclaim Your laws and decrees throughout the nation; that a spiritual explosion may take place in our nation; that the Holy Spirit may flow and grow in the hearts of the people of our nation and a great revival to turn back to the Lord and His ways may come. Amen!
