CANDIDATES AND LEADERS: Godly Advisors
45 Days of Praying for the Elections - DAY 20
SCRIPTURE: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.” Psalm 111:10

About 50 years ago or so the one consolation we had about our political parties was that they exhibited a fear of God. Our government seemed to uphold a moral and biblical standard in its law and national practice that indicated that its leaders had some reverence of God. Afterall, the things that are legal now would have never been legal 50 years ago. The fear of God has eroded to indifference to God. Fast forward a few decades later, the dominant fear of our leaders is their constituents paying more taxes, higher insurance rates and co-pays, higher food and gas prices. Concern for the wellbeing of the constituency is a good thing, but where is the fear of God and where is wisdom?
The fear of the Lord is the ground level introduction to wisdom. When our leaders have a healthy reverential fear of Jesus, it humbles us to receive all that God intends for us. However, man exalts fear of the tangible and misses the intangible blessings of doing God’s commandments. “Jesus answered him, ‘The first of all the commandments is: “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31. Who has risen in the halls of the Congress and the Senate of late? Men and women who are mostly indifferent to our God and no longer fear Him.
When indifference to God replaces fear of God, then we can pass laws and create policies that 1) open our border to everyone and bypass the immigration laws(Exodus 23:31-33); 2) defund police departments (Romans 13:1-5); 3) allow men to compete against women in college sports ( Deuteronomy 22:5, Romans 1:24-25); 4) make us fuel dependent on other countries (Galatians 5:1); 5) decrease our military budget and military presence (Romans 13:4); 6) codify the murdering of unborn babies (Exodus 20:13); 7) allow school aged children to medically mutilate their bodies to look like the opposite sex and not tell their parents (Genesis 1:27, 5:2, Psalm 139:14); 8) teach primary and secondary school children about heterosexual and homosexual sex education (Isaiah 5:20, Matthew 18:6 ), and the list continues. Where is wisdom in this? Does God’s Word support these laws and policies? Absolutely not. The scripture address next to each law or policy refutes it.
The onus for us is to pray and ask the Lord to surround our political leaders and candidates with godly advisors. Men and women who know the scriptures, can discern the truth, have good understanding to do God’s commandment, and give wise counsel. Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” So do we throw in the towel of disgust or despair? Never! We offer supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,”
Prayer: Oh heavenly Father, let there be a multitude of godly counselors and may their counsel be received by our leaders and candidates. We acknowledge that these political leaders and candidates are not clergyman, but Lord, touch their hearts that they may receive wisdom and instruction from the ones who fear You, who call upon Your name. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
