Avoid Danger

This week our devotional team handled the topic, “Noting of Divisive People” with wisdom and grace. Saints, it is inevitable that we will encounter these individuals so let us commit this scripture to memory and be prepared!
SCRIPTURE: “Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.” [Romans 16:17]
Saints of God, Why should we be concerned with those who pose a threat to the unity of the body of Christ. Our verse simply states to note who they are; and avoid them. Have you ever had an encounter with divisive persons? I can for sure name at least 4 times I found myself involved with toxic folks. I call them toxic or poisonous people; they are who we should all want to identify and avoid. Even as a healthcare worker, we are advised to wear more PPE (barriers) when handling any hazardous materials; these material are so dangerous that they warrant we handle them as such.

Romans 16:17 mentions how divisive people become evident when they promote or walk contrary to doctrine learned. According to passages, such as, 2 Peter 1:21 and 2 Timothy 3:16, Scripture is the Word of God. Scripture is what God uses to give us order, instruction, strength, correction, etc. Contained in scripture is all that is necessary for the believer to be successful on this side of eternity.

Why would anyone attempt to tear us away from what gives life? Well, this is the goal of our enemy; and we recently delved into I John 5 where we are warned that this world is under the sway of the evil one. The enemy wants to devour the body of Christ; therefore, we must not be slow in our obedience to the Father, but we must without hesitation shine light on those with known intents and motives contrary to our Lord’s will and instruction. Again, just as the healthcare worker and the hazardous materials it is crucial to intentionally distance ourselves from those who we know desire to bring confusion and ultimately divide the body.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for all that You give us in Your Word. We ask that You to help us readily love and obey what You say so that we will not be devoured by the enemy. Help us to have a testimony of success; always aiming to be the light You have planned and purposed us to be in this dark world. In Jesus’ Name-Amen!
