The Loveless Church

This week our Devotional Team takes on the topic, "Return and Rekindling of our First Love for Christ"  with Revelations 2:1-7 as our focus scripture. Just ask yourself, do I love Jesus like I did when I was first saved? If we're honest, in some point of our Christian walk, that love dynamic we had with Jesus Christ may have waned since the earlier days of our walk. Be encouraged by the devotionals this week and purpose to commit these verse to memory.
SCRIPTURE: “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: 2 “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; 3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. 6 But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” Revelations 2:1-7
Lord, You chose me, and I apprehensively, yet convincingly accepted,
Through Your love, my faith, and Your grace, I fell deeply in love unexpectedly.

I understand that I didn’t choose You, but You chose to love me first,
Yet I was a sinner, You still died for me and made me the church.

Now, I can walk boldly with supreme confidence daily,
You are willing to walk with me, even though I’m still failing.

Although, You remain loving, faithful, merciful, and gracious,
I love you too, yet disobedient, requiring Your patience.

I remember the fire that burned when it came to serving You,
You wooed me with Your promises and caressed me with Your truth.

I remember singing songs of praise and You wiped the tears I cried,
Because I’m glad You are in my life, Lord, I lift Your name on high.

Lately, the love we had seems to have faded away,
Since You never change, it’s obvious who has moved by the day.

I wasn’t saved to be a loveless church,
So, I must repent to rekindle who I loved first.

I refuse to jeopardize the love You have for me as Your child,
So, I must love others, and hate the sin that has existed for awhile.

For You have blessed me with all that I could ever think or ask,
I hear the Holy Spirit clearly, now I can overcome the spiritual task.

I am back in fellowship with my first love whom I hold in the highest regard,
Now, I can eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.

Prayer:
I am grateful for the consistent and persistent manner in which You love me. Lord, You are always dependable as seasons change. Patiently, You allow me to fall in and out of love. Certainly, repentance is utilized frequently. You are my constant! You are my stability! Thank You for loving me first and loving me despite me. In the matchless name of Jesus. Amen.
