A Drunken Spirit

This week’s Devotionals will focus on “The Holy Spirit’s Control!”  The battle is on! Two formidable opponents, the Spirit vs the flesh, vying for dominance and who will win? Join us this week and let’s purpose to commit this scripture to memory and let’s hear what the Lord has given our Devotional writers to encourage us in our walk!
SCRIPTURE: "And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,"  Ephesians 5:18
SCRIPTURE:  "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.  25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."   Galatians 5:22-23, 25
Let’s determine the source of what has me intoxicated,
Drunkenness from worldly resources or of the Spirit’s persuasion.

It’s a choice of what will have me under its standards and control,
Whether drunk from wine or filled with the Spirit, my conduct will unfold.

What I indulge in the most reflects my reference point and source,
Does the Spirit dominate my lifestyle, or do I retreat to ungodly resources.

The world offers so many unhealthy things that cater to my flesh,
My nature is willing, so I struggle to resist, even at my very best.

The scripture says, “Don’t get drunk with wine” as a negative command,
Yet, it also says “But be filled with Spirit” as a positive demand.

Both have an effect that will exemplify my ordered Kingdom role,
Preparing a walk that stands regulated rather than a saint stumbling out of control.

Therefore, I must walk in conscious dependence on the Lord at all times,
Dealing with unconfessed sin, so I can be filled with the Spirit and aligned.

Starting and ending my day with prayer, praise, and rehearsed promises,
Preparing to bear His fruit with a walk that displays truth and honesty.

So, it’s my responsibility to consume myself with spirit-filled decisions,
Demonstrating the Lord’s love, peace, joy, and gentleness.

Lord, take control of my senses and empower me with Your presence,
Bring your kindness, long-suffering, goodness, self-control, and faithfulness.

Now, I can be used as Your tool and vessel,
My prayer is to become Spiritually drunken and a Spirit-filled blessing.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for the Holy Spirit. You have empowered me with all I need to resist temptation and sin. Continue to teach me how to imitate You. Let Galatians 5:22-23 become my lifestyle. Bless this prayer in the name of Jesus.
