If the Lord Hates It, We Should Too
This first half of this week of Devotionals focuses on Rejection of Gossip, Slander, Lies and Discord. Our writer's perspectives are on-point! In these remaining days allow your hearts to be ministered to by these challenging devotionals and make it your aim to commit this scripture to memory and to live by it!
SCRIPTURE: “These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren." Proverbs 6:16-19
My Father makes it blatantly clear what He hates,
Yet, gossip, slander, lies, and discord, we continue to demonstrate.
Most think of others rather than considering themselves as the culprit,
Pointing out their sin while our iniquities are hidden or disregarded.
Our lack of accountability breeds these ongoing behaviors,
Rather than taking the plank out of our own eyes, we point out the speck in our neighbors.
Therefore, we resist or evade addressing ungodly conduct that the Lord sees as an abomination,
So, we either continue to sin, tolerate the sin, or entertain the temptation.
Whether a little bit or a lot of gossip, slander, lies, or discord,
Whether guilty or even associated with the act, you are offending the Lord.
Whether it's quiet or loud, public or even in secret,
Whether directly or indirectly, the Lord hears it and sees it.
One, we shouldn’t look down on others proudly while comparing our status to people,
We were called to esteem others better than ourselves as God sees us as equal.
Two, a lying tongue is detrimental to a trustworthy relationship,
The act will not go unpunished, and the Bible says there’s a consequence.
Three, the shed of innocent blood derives from a sinful heart’s endorsement,
A feeling of anger or guilt that leads to an intentional killing such as an abortion.
Four, a heart that devises wicked plans,
A willingness to go against the Lord’s unchanging hands.
Five, He sees those whose feet are swift to run to evil and wickedness,
Provoking behaviors that are attached to malicious acts and deceitfulness.
Six, the Lord hates a false witness that spreads untruths,
Spreading a message that represents evil and the destruction it will do.
So, these sins, which are forbidden, will sow discord, strife, and conflict among the brethren,
The Lord is about peace, love, and joy, not tension and division.
Therefore, beware of what the Lord despises and hates,
The 7 sins He listed will create an ungodly life that only evil can shape.
Prayer: Thank You Lord for sharing what you forbid. Forgive me for reasoning, negotiating, or even considering what you call evil. You’ve even given me a way out in Your Word to turn away from these sins. There are no gray areas or in-between. Thank You for Your grace and mercy on these matters. Continue to strengthen me to flee, discern, and turn away. I lift this prayer in the name of Jesus!
