The Attitude of Delight Is Right

SCRIPTURE: “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.”
Psalm 1:2
What is your attitude toward the Bible? Honestly? The scripture says, “His delight” is his attitude about the privilege to be exposed to the Words from God. The delight word may be lost in its usage today, but it carries the idea of elation, enthusiasm, and enjoyment that pleases our souls. I suggest to you that our overall attitude in life should be enhanced by our meditation on the Word of God. If this Book is not the most important thing in your life, then you are out of fellowship. You ask, how can I be so dogmatic? Because it’s important to God to meet us there, face to face spiritually in His Word. When we meditate on God’s Word we are actually fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit in our mind, soul, and spirit. It is in meditating on His Word we are allowing God to impact our hearts in a way that conforms us into His thoughts and His ways enabling us to see things from a divine perspective. God says I have exalted my Word above My name (Psalm 138:2), and His value statement should impress upon us that meditating on it is important to Him.

People who know the Word have come to know it because they are meditators. When I say, “Know the Word” I’m not talking about the facts that you know on the surface, but they know It because meditating on It has affected how we understand God and the things in life. The blessed person is blessed because of what the Word has done. If It is the Word of God, then why is It not important? If It is from the God you say you have faith in, if It is the God you have rested your eternal destiny upon, then why is It not the most valuable Word to you in your life? Why is it that the words of people can mean so much more to us than the Words of God? Why is it that you will crave and yearn for a story from the lips of another sinner and yet not crave to hear the Word from God? Why is it that you can remember a scenario, a story, a movie, a picture, and yet not remember one or two verses? I say to you that it is a value statement!

One commentator says, “How we treat the Word is the truest indicator of how we feel about Christ.” It not only ignores the messenger, but it ignores the message also.

Prayer: Please O God our Father, make our hearts thirst for the water of Your Word just as the deer pants for the water to quench its thirst. Help us to find the experience of delight from meeting You in the meditation upon Your Word. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen!
