Forgiveness Is Our Daily Celebration

SCRIPTURE: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”  Romans 8:1-4
Those who are in Christ Jesus have a reason to celebrate forgiveness everyday despite how things are going around us. This declaration is the authoritative decree from our God who all sin ultimately offends. It is offered to all, but only a special group of people can wake up every day and say that this decree is mine because I am in Christ through faith in what He has done for me. These verses for our devotion today make it very clear that the kind of forgiveness that only God can give for our sin issues cannot be obtained by us without what Jesus Christ has done for us. The righteous and perfectly just Word of God clearly establishes that we all sin and cannot pay for it or remove it, but Jesus came in the likeness of our human weakness and lived the righteous life perfectly for us and then died the physical, spiritual, and the ultimate eternal death in our place as payment for the penalty we could not pay for ourselves.

When this truth is real to us, it should make us love our Lord to the fullest degree of our gratitude filled hearts. Jesus said once of a woman known by the religious community for her immoral past who wet His feet with her tears, wiped them with her hair, and anointed them with her costly oil that she demonstrated that those who realize how much they are forgiven, will show they love Me much (Luke 7:36-50). Do you celebrate with a humble and yet joyful heart? Do you love Him with such gratitude that gives Him the best you have? Are you ashamed around other sinners to show how thankful you are?  Because every day of your life you can awaken to the truth from God that, “NOW, NO, NONE, NO WAY are we no longer under the condemnation" we justly deserved for our sin.

Prayer: Father in heaven, my heart is filled with gratitude today when I think about being released from the sentence of condemnation for my sin. No words or works that I can do will ever equal what You have done for me, but such as I have I surrender to You the best I can do by the power of the Holy Spirit. In the Lord Jesus Name, amen,
