HEALING OF DAMAGED HEARTS: The Best Cardiologist in the Universe

This week, the devotions team will focus on the topic “Healing of Damaged Hearts.”  Join us each morning for encouragement through God’s Word and our Devotionals.
SCRIPTURE: "He heals the brokenhearted. And binds up their wounds."  Psalm 147:3
According to ClinicsSports.com the USA is the global leader in medical science. They have developed top-tier facilities for the research and development of cardiology. The US has attracted some of the best heart surgeons in the world to pursue their professional careers and research work. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD is ranked 13th in the world for cardiology, 15th in adult specialties, and 10th in pediatric specialties according to US News Health. That’s not bad as far as rankings go, but whether it is the Cleveland Clinic or Johns Hopkins the best heart doctor to date is still God.

God has been known to heal the broken hearted (Psalm 147:3), no cardiologist has done that. God has also given us the answer to destroying the roots of a bitter heart (Ephesians 4:32). There are many examples of heartbreak and bitterness in the Bible and I am sure someone reading this has experienced heartbreak or bitterness in their lives. The good news is believers have direct access to the best doctor in the universe. He supersedes all specialist in every area. He owns His practice and His appointment book is never full. When you need Him, you can call Him and He will answer (Psalm 17:6, Psalm 120:1, Isaiah 58:9). See with the Lord, any appointment needed was set when you accepted Christ as your personal savior. His line is never busy and His medicine never fails.

Whether your heart has been broken or you are worried immensely or if you have started growing roots of bitterness, God is the doctor that has the ability to fix the problem. He is strong and stable and can withstand your woes. Although our sin can grieve the Holy Spirit our problems are never too heavy for the Lord. He said, cast your cares upon Me and I will sustain you (Psalm 55:22). Christ tells us to come to Him all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. He encourages us to take His yoke and learn from Him (Matthew 11:28).  Can you imagine a doctor who is gentle and lowly in heart and offers rest for your soul? Jesus said, that His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:29-30). As believers we are a part of the best medical system known to man, the doctor is better than the best, and your co-pay has already been paid.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father thank You for the genuine and complete care that comes from You. You are not just our cardiologist but our primary care physician, our psychiatrist, and our physical therapist. No illness surprises You. You wrote all the medical journals and Your cures are perfect. Thank You, Lord for Your availability to us. Your line is never busy. Your Word tells us to guard our hearts for it is the wellspring of life. Forgive us when we don’t. Forgive us Lord, when we neglect Your Word and allow roots of bitterness to form. Thank you, Lord for taking all of our calls, hearing all of our cries, and for healing all of our woes. Your balm is priceless but available to all who will accept it. Thank You, Lord for Your Son, Jesus the Christ who died on the cross and then rose so that we could be saved, healed, and reborn. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
