DIVISION IN THE BODY: An All-Too-Common Thread Amongst Believers

The Theme for this week’s devotionals is “Division in the Body in Home, Marriages, and Friends” a topic for which Pastor Wayne Cockrell has consistently asked  the body of Christ to be in prayer. Be encouraged by today’s devotional and please continue to pray with us.
SCRIPTURE: “I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.” 1 Corinthians 1:10
Broken friendships, broken marriages, broken spirits, broken churches...all because we allowed an open door in our thinking for the enemy to build a stronghold of criticism that brought contentions. A critical spirit is one who is judgmental, picky, opinionated, a perfectionist who can leave you exhausted because of their negativity. However, none of us are exempt from being criticized, especially in this culture. Remember, Jesus was called a glutton and drunkard, a friend of sinners and even that He had a demon.

Jesus the Logos (Eternal Word) spoke the written word (rhema word) which was a two-edged sword that taught, rebuked, corrected, and instructed in righteousness. The desire of the Lord Jesus is that we would speak the same thing and be perfectly joined together in the same mind and judgment in the Body of Christ. Words of wisdom and spiritual growth encourage us to move forward even if we are bleeding from the truth.

Mary of Bethany did not allow the disciples criticism of her to keep her from washing Jesus’ feet. Humbly she washed our Savior’s feet out of her passion and love for Him thereby having the Lord’s testimony even to this day. It is only as you and I desire the Word, to think the Word to thus become a “doer” of the Word.

Prayer:
Gracious Lord, I call my sin what You call it. Please forgive me for the times my tongue
has revealed my heart and it has brought division and contention. Holy Spirit may I thirst for
Your Word to think Your Word and respond according to wisdom.

Amen! Lord help us all to be 'diligent' in the pursuit of Your will for us daily, which has to include having a heart for unity collectively, a calling upon us all which distinguishes us favorably as we give witness with the gospel. Let our differences lend to a beautiful tapestry of effects which draw others to Jesus! Let me be a good thread by the grace of God.

Amen. Thanks, for this plain truth.
