FACING THE FACTS, FOR FREEDOM FROM FICTION

SCRIPTURE: “But if any of you lacks wisdom, LET HIM ASK OF GOD, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ASK IN FAITH without any doubt, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind” James 1:5,6
My mother is very old, and has forgotten much, and as is the case often with extreme years of age, newer memories are harder to form and, relatively speaking, older memories are easier to keep. At almost ninety-nine she can still do basic math in her head, and she still can spell. And if I were to ask her “What is a woman,” she would not falter, and offer herself as an example, and likely wonder why I’d ask such a ridiculously simple question. She also would be able to figure accurately that in Scrabble ‘w-o-m-a-n’ is worth ten points, but I digress. Without the Bible, and without our modern science, across cultures and generations there has always been an accepted understanding of the difference between a man and a woman. With the Bible, and even with modern science, the understanding has not changed; but sometimes folks can get creative to a fault. So now there’s a brewing controversy, by way of an expanding minority opinion. It seems that intelligence and sophistication are not always wed with wisdom.

The text invites us to ‘ask,’ and to do so ‘in faith.’ And even though the Bible is not a biology book, it does inform us well, and offers us wisdom to rely on.  It tells us early on that there is a Creator-creation distinction, and that we are a special part of God’s creation. We are given the privilege of overseeing this world we’ve been introduced to, and as human beings, living souls, or as earthlings, we share with other creatures the ability to reproduce, given the nuanced attributes of being male on the one hand and female on the other, with the maturing version of each respectively called ‘man’ and ‘woman,’ [our physical and physiological distinctions are afforded us by our genetics]. We are described as image-bearers of God, as well as being blessed by God.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, as it is God’s heart to bless us, let us exercise the imperative of letting it happen, surrendering to Him, appreciating Him as not only near, but within. Let us find the calling dear, and embrace our sacred design, as well as the pursuits native to it. Within our reflective pause, let us all dive in, head-first, immersed in the scriptural support for its own sufficiency to meet all needs, with the capacity to transform all wants. Let my eternal and truest citizenship show to the glory of God Most High. Amen!
