Affliction Leads Me Back Home to Him
Scripture: " You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to Your word. 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word. 68 You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes. 69 The proud have forged a lie against me, But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart. 70 Their heart is as fat as grease, But I delight in Your law. 71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes. 72 The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of coins of gold and silver." Psalm 119:65-72
The Lord’s intentions are to bring me back home,
My ways are overshadowing His as I wander and roam.
So, He’s forced to stir up the waters of my life,
His judgment is justifiable according to what’s right.
So, the afflictions I face carry a purpose and lesson,
The goal is to look more like His Son through a divine progression.
Declaring my afflictions are directly approved,
Spiritual tools that are either allowed, sent, or used.
The way a believer respond will reveal his or her spiritual maturity,
What the Lord says biblically will dismiss their affliction’s power and authority.
Creating a tailor-made path with a testimony through His workmanship,
Establishing faith through divine giving, faithfulness, and relationship.
Displaying His goodness and position as my glorified trainer,
He is my heavenly protector, teacher, restorer, and sustainer.
As I encounter afflictions through His appointed and ordered objectives,
Each may be assigned as common events, consequences for sin, or tools for correction.
His purpose is to produce change with growing and learning,
Teaching me interpretation, application, and discernment.
I understand that afflictions are a required and nonnegotiable option,
Knowing He is teaching me as He is reaching me to become a man of doctrine.
Therefore, I look and expect afflictions as they affirm my faith,
God’s goodness becomes my truest treasure that keeps me comforted and safe.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for allowing me to see a glimpse of Your plans. Jeremiah 29:11 says it all. Part of that plan is my afflictions. Your purpose is divine. I want to know it. Continue to teach me Your ways, even in affliction. Now, I expect it. Yet, now I depend on Your comfort which comes hand and hand. You are a good God! You are worthy of so much praise. In the matchless name of Jesus. Amen!
