Footprints On the Mountainside Part I

SCRIPTURE: “How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who announces peace and brings good news of happiness, who announces salvation, and says to Zion, “Your God reign?” Isaiah 52:7 (NASB)
These are the reflections from an Autumn 2022 endeavor to witness within Baltimore and its
neighboring counties the goodness of God in Christ, the need of man and the value of God's Word to the community, by way of ordinary believers whose yes opened an incredible door.

1. It was the intersection of Falls Road and Cold Spring Lane, a dreary afternoon, where the noise of abundant traffic would compete with the lesser noise of a miracle occurring. I don't know the name of the teenaged cadet leaving Poly-Western Senior High School, but judging by her exuberance in receiving a Bible, something very special happened that she would shout, and continue shouting, "This is just what I needed!’ holding up the gift of God's Word, the Bible, as she raced across the busy street to join her friends. "This is just what I needed!"

2. Rebecca Villamajor joined us for much of the blitz, being in Baltimore with family from the Philippines, where she participated in the Gideons as an auxiliary member. She was due to return home sooner, but when she learned of the blitz she determined to return home later and stay here to share with all of us. And so she did for all five days. Her quiet compassionate conviction was very evident across all of our endeavors. His Word not returning void, can be appreciated not only with the newcomers in Christ, but also those whose transformation remains lively even into the gift of years. Quietly, and with a gentle smile, she would extend her hand with a Bible to 'whosoever will.’

3. The report was given, as simply three sets of numbers, SIXTY-SEVEN, FORTY, and THIRTY- THREE THOUSAND, and when it was explained what these numbers meant, the pastor and his flock lifted praise unto God for what was being done in Baltimore. Colonial Baptist Church got noisy for a bit, knowing 33,000 seeds were sown [the Scripture], across 40 working hours, by approximately 67 Gideons and Auxiliary. Rejoice in knowing that little becomes much when placed in the Lord's hands! Some will sow, and others will water, but it is God who gives the increase! [paraphrased from 1 Corinthians 3:5-7]

4. The blitz was over, and with some remaining Bibles one went to our mailman one evening, whom I'll call 'M.’ He missed his children and was apart from their mother. We pray for the mending of his family and hope that the little Bible will be a bridge to all of their healing as a family. Leaving us,  thanked us and expressed the need to return to church again. We hope that he will.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for the opportunity to share Your Word with many who, as we have seen, are hungry and thirsty for Your righteousness.  Your will be done.
