Water Inside and Out

SCRIPTURE:  Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”  The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”   John 4:13-15
Water is such an essential commodity that if we are unable to access it, we are in a crisis. Hydration is just one of its major purposes. Hydration in the body is essential for controlling our body temperatures and promoting adequate blood circulation, which helps our organs to function properly and effectively. The Samaritan woman at the well was one who could share the importance of obtaining water; she and the women of the town traveled to the well daily. She even carved out a time in the day that was more comfortable for her to fetch this required and necessary item. In this verse, on this day, she meets Jesus, who is also, like water, a requirement and a necessity.  Without Him, people are in a crisis. The Samaritan woman, however, is initially perplexed as to why Jesus (a Jew) would want to have anything to do with her, a Samaritan. She was not aware that Jesus was the Christ, that He could cleanse her on the inside and forever satisfy and quench her spiritual thirst. She was used to broken promises and unmet expectations by people and men, but here she encounters the ever living and satisfying water, Jesus the Christ. For He is the Messiah who is able to bridge the gaps between the popular and the unpopular, the rich and the poor, the Jew and the Samaritan, and fulfill all of what is lacking and, if accepted, become the fountain of water springing up into everlasting life! At this major crossroad in life, she accepts and embraces Christ as the Messiah and runs to tell others of His comfort and deliverance.

PRAYER:  Lord, we embrace You and all the life and peace you bring us. Help us to be so taken with You and Your Word that we, like the Samaritan woman, drop what may be holding us back from sharing Your powerful message and purposeful ministry.  We praise You for Your divine provision of all we lack on the inside so that we can represent You on the outside. Thank You for Your life-changing principles and truths. In Jesus’ Name...Amen!
