A BOOMERANG BROUGHT OF JERICHO
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:11 [NASB] - He has made EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL in it's time. He has also set eternity in their heart, without which man will not find out the work which GOD has done from the beginning even to the end.
Well, this is the month where some of us have had, or are still having the experience of that 'holiday', where 'trick, or treat' is sprung. I can imagine the hopeful parents of Zacchaeus on his birth, perhaps wondering of God just that, having such high expectations as to give him a name meaning 'pure'. And here he is, small.
I imagine there being some behind the back snickers going on as some might regard the little guy, and the name inferring purity.
But, what we cannot see, God can. And, what we can see, God appreciates perfectly.
"He has made everything beautiful in its time..."
Going forward several decades in a place named Jericho, Zacchaeus is grown, somewhat, and is the chief- tax person, wealthy, influential and by some accounts, successful... by other accounts, the worst of traitors being aligned with Rome for profit.
But all created things have their seasons. All have their chapters, and while we have hopes none absolutely know how the coming page will read.
From a place of earthly-worldly abundance and a place of spiritual poverty came a conflict to birth curiosity, the sort which moved this one soul to have discomfort within comfort, to move, to stir, and to ponder over this man Jesus...just for a better look, for whatever it meant.
So he maneuvered through the crowd of elbows, and knees, he ran when he could, he struggled up the sycamore tree for good vantage. .. to then hear "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house." [Luke 19:5]
So, he went from his house to the tree, and then from his tree perch back to the house welcoming Jesus. While this trip was by measure, short, it was by effect, beyond measure!
Boomerang!
Zacchaeus went from callous, to curious, to contrite; his personal disconnect from purity, as he was named, now connects with the reality of personal purity for the 'yes' of God's prompting.
Boomerang!
And much as God spoke through Joshua and his men once in times past, whom through obedience saw the walls of Jericho come down, now again in Jericho, by the in-speaking of God, some walls have tumbled again- that of the stony places of the heart of Zacchaeus. And so go we.
Boomerang!
God has made everything beautiful in its time. Let patience have its perfect work.
O' taste and see that the Lord is good.
Prayer: Lord Jesus thank You for Your indescribable gift, and continual giving, for Your keeping of me despite me. I pray that my gratefulness reflects the same, through a greater faithfulness and the felt obligation to love with action. To You my God, I bow. Amen.
