Surrendering My Will to God’s Will

Scripture: I Thessalonians 4:3 - For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: Proverbs 11:14 - Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Many Christians want to know God’s will or plan for their lives. It is important to surrender our ways for the Lord’s ways Have you totally surrendered your will to God’s will? Most of His will is already stated and mentioned over and over again in the Bible. For instance, it is clearly God’s will that people live a sanctified/set apart life and abstain from fornication. .I Thessalonians 4:3-5a says “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;” We shouldn’t be conformed to what the world does, but we should be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Keep in mind that Jesus was willing to die for us; therefore, we should be willing to live for Him in a way that is well pleasing to Him. I John 3:22 says “ And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” Ephesians 5:8-10 says “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth; 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.”
To aid in finding out God’s will and surrendering to His will, it is also helpful to seek godly counsel, advisors, mentors, in our lives (Proverbs 11:14). They can be instrumental in helping us to figure out God’s will for us, but it is up to us to surrender our will to God’s plans.
To know and surrender to God’s will, think about how God has wired/gifted you. From the Purpose Driven Life book, it talks about how we should know our shape:
(S) Spiritual gifts (I Corinthians 12:18
(H) Heart (Proverbs 4:23)
(A) Abilities (I Peter 4:11)
(P) Personality (I Corinthians 12:6
(E ) Experience (Romans 8:23)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Help me to totally surrender to Your will in my life. I want to do what pleases You. Open doors if what I am praying for is Your will, and close doors if what I desire is not Your will for me. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
