God Given Identity
Scripture: John 15:16 – Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. Romans 8:17 – And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Galatians 3:13 – Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: II Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Some of us base our identity on how people view us, how many degrees we have, what position we have, how much material things we have, the skills/talents we have, our roles or assignment. The enemy doesn’t want us to realize our new identity so that we will continue to be distracted. On social media we tend to share only the great things about ourselves. Rarely do people expose what they struggle with. Our identity is not based on what people think or how we view ourselves, our identity is on what God says about us. Some people have a very low self-esteem. Once we have invited Jesus Christ int our hearts, we have a new eternal identity. Roles/purposes, assignments that we have, for example, being a husband or wife, parent, teacher, may change, but our identity from God’s word doesn’t change. It is so important to read/study God’s word, pray, and worship the Lord and believe/trust what God says about us. Then we will fulfill our purposes better, and we will see things according to His perspective. When we know who/whose we are, that should change how we live. Who we are to Him (our identity) is more important than anything we do for Him. Our value doesn’t come from what we do but whose we are. Do you believe the report of the Lord concerning your identity – how He sees you?
You are a new creation in Christ! (II Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. )
You are accepted! (Romans 15:7 - Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.)
You are chosen! (John 15:16 - Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.)
You are a child of God! (Romans 8:17 - And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.)
You are loved! (John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.)
You are unique! (Psalms 139:13 - For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.)
You are special! (Ephesians 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.)
You are precious! (Isaiah 43:4 - Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
You are treasured! (Deuteronomy 14:2 - For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.)
You are empowered! (Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank You for dying on the cross for me. I’m grateful that I have a personal relationship with You. Please continue to use me for Your glory. I know that who I am to You is more important than anything that I can do for You. I will always read/study Your word, pray, and worship You. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
