Where is My Robe?

Scripture: Matthew 6:19-21 – 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

When Joseph, son of Jacob, was a teenager, his father gave him a tunic of colors. Joseph was Jacob’s favorite and the colorful tunic was a reminder to everyone, including his other sons, that Joseph was special to Jacob. Now understand that Joseph did not really do anything special to be Jacob’s favorite he just was. See, Joseph was born in Jacob’s older age and that made Jacob exalt him higher than his other children. The Bible says; that Jacob (Israel) loved Joseph more than all of his children, because he was the son of his old age (Genesis 37:3). Because of this favor, Joseph received a token that yelled, “I’m daddy’s favorite!” Well, Lord, where is my tunic? Where is my tangible sign that everyone can see, that says, I am Your favorite?

Have you ever wondered, “Where is my robe?” Have you ever looked at another believer and wondered, “Why has the Lord exalted him? Why has the Lord shown her so much favor?” Sure, you have. Everyone at some time in his/her life have wondered, why him, why her and not me. In our flawed human state, we often desire praise, trophies, or accolades just for being. In our flawed human state, we often forget that we already have more than we deserve. In our flawed human state, we must remind ourselves daily that:

1.God’s grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9)

2.God gives us new mercies daily; even though we don’t deserve them (Lamentations 3:22-
            23)

3.Our reward is actually in Heaven (Matthew 6: 19-20)

Moreover, we often want the blessings that others have without going through the trials that others have gone through. Jealousy (believing you should have what someone has) and envy (wanting what belongs to someone else (possessions or fame) are human traits that often cause Believers to sin and question God’s divine direction and provision. Who are we to question God and force Him to pick favorites?

Prayer: Dear Lord, forgive us when we feel that what You have given us isn’t enough. Forgive us for expecting You to exalt us over others or expecting You to give to us simply because You gave to someone else. Lord, thank You for mercies that are new daily. Lord, thank You for Your grace that is truly sufficient for us. Thank You, Lord, for the robe that is waiting for us in Heaven and for Your Word that reminds us that earthly “things” will eventually dissipate, but the crowns (tunics/robes) given in Heaven are forever and are priceless. Thank You, Lord, for Your Son, Jesus the Christ who died for our sins. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
