My Lord Is Personal

Scripture: (Is 43:3) I am the LORD your God. I am the Holy One of Israel. I am the one who saves you. I will give up Egypt to set you free. I will give up Cush and Seba for you.

What is God to the believer? Who is God to the Believer? God, our personal savior, paid a huge price for us because we mean so much to Him (Is 43:4). When the type of relationship the believer has with Christ truly sinks in; why would he want anyone else? When a person realizes what type of relationship she has with Christ; that type of relationship should be the standard for all other relationships. Richard Smallwood asked, “Who on earth is like unto our God? Who is this King of Glory? Then he answered that by saying that He is holy! He is worthy, He is our refuge and shield, creator, deliverer, redeemer, and friend”. Pause for a moment and consider that. Consider that, a Holy God is your shelter from danger (refuge); that a Holy God is your protector (shield), your sole reason for being (creator), your rescuer (deliverer), your savior (redeemer) and friend. If refuge, shield, creator, deliverer, and redeemer didn’t have you shouting; friend should. Having such a friend should have you raising the roof. None of us can call the President of the USA in our time of need and get an answer. None of us can call the police chief when in danger and know that he will come running; but if you call on the Lord, He is there. When you are lonely and have no one to talk to; He is there. At 2 a.m., when you dare not call anyone else, when your world has been turned upside down; you have a friend in Jesus who will actually listen and can change things. The Lord, your Savior, who has created you, protects you, rescued you, redeemed you also calls you friend (insert praise dance). In society, the term friend is used loosely with many people calling associates friends. This is done because they don’t know the definition of a friend. A friend is someone who will never tell you to do something he knows is wrong, will never knowingly allow you to do something that is wrong and always has your best interest at heart. That describes God.

Throughout the Bible, the possessive pronoun “my” is used to describe our relationship with God. Some examples are: The Lord is MY shepherd (Psalms 23:1). The Lord is MY rock, MY fortress, and MY deliverer (Psalm 18). The Lord is MY strength and my song; He has given me victory. This is MY God, and I will praise HIM… (Ex 15:2). Surely God is MY salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, is MY strength and MY song; He has become MY salvation (Isaiah 12:2)

How great is it to say that the God, holy and mighty, is Yours? How great is it to know that God who is worthy of all praise, who is all knowing, and all-powerful calls you friend? How great is it to know that you have a personal relationship with Lord?

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness. Lord, thank You for loving me despite of my short comings. Lord, thank You for rescuing me, protecting me, providing for me, listening to me, and saving me. Lord, I don’t deserve Your love. I don’t deserve Your friendship, yet You give it freely. Forgive me Lord, for not being a good friend to You. Forgive me for doubting You. Forgive me for thinking I can do things without You and opposite of Your Word. Lord, thank you for picking me up and wiping me off when I fall. But more than anything, Lord, thank you for Your son, Jesus the Christ who died on the cross for my sins and then rose so I could live. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
